Embroidery Classes & Workshops for Fine Linen |

The Passion for Fine Linen & Hand Embroidery
Based upon traditional European standards, Williamsuburg Linens
& Lace offers classes and workshops in the time honored skills of
hand embroidery on fine linens for the home.
Our
knowledge in the techniques of embroidery are offered here in three
distinct classes. We provide the novice to the most experienced of
embroiderers, classic techniques to master and use to create your very
best linens.
Our passion for linen & embroidery is
also offered in workshops for church altar guilds. We share our
knowledge in both the embroidering & care of fine linen for the
church altar.
Basic Embroidery
Three - 2 Hour Sessions
Day
1: An introduction class to the traditional techniques of embroidery.
Basic embroidery stitches will be taught. A sampler of stitches will be
provided which includes all materials necessary to accomplish the work.
Stitches and techniques to learn & practice during the class and at
home/hotel.
Day 2: Sampler stitches will be continued
with discussions of techniques refined during this two hour class
session. This will be a full session focusing on the learned techniques
and progress that was made during Day 1 sessions and practicing at
home/hotel.
Day 3: A specially designed project kit
will be given at this session with the ability to fulfill a real
project. Techniques will be reviewed and monitored during this session
with basic embroidery stitching implemented into a lovely heirloom
pillow top.
Total class hours: 6 hours Class
Materials: A sampler project & an heirloom pillow top project is
included. Prerequisite: Beginners Welcome.
Fee: $150.00.
White Work Embroidery
Two – 2 1/2 Hour Sessions
Day
1: This class will cover basic whitework stitches used in creating
beautiful heirloom linens. The class will include preparation of fabric
for whitework, instructions on how to select the best fabrics to use
with a sampler kit provided for learning and practicing these
techniques.
Day 2: this session will review what was
taught in the first session and will continue with perfecting these
stitching techniques. A linen project will be provided to accomplish an
actual work. Skill techniques will be reviewed and monitored with ideas
and instruction on how to care for your new hand embroidered linens.
Total Class Hours: 5 hours Class Materials: A sampler stitching project & an heirloom linen project.
Prerequisite: Must have Basic Embroidery skills. Fee: $125.00
Monogramming
Three - 2 Hour Sessions
Day
1: This class offers the time-honored art of fine hand monogramming.
This type of needlework has been very popular since the 18 th century.
Learn the techniques & skills of the Old World . A sampler of
stitches will be provided and taught to achieve a beautiful heirloom
look. This class will include preparation of fabric, proper selection
of fabrics used for monogramming & techniques necessary to
accomplish the desired results. Be prepared to learn in this session
and then practice at home/hotel.
Day 2: This will be a
full session of focusing on the learned techniques with monitoring and
reviewing the progress made from Day 1 and practicing at home/hotel.
After achieving your new skills, a linen project will be provided to
accomplish a real finished monogram.
Day 3: This
session will focus on designing a monogram, design transfer techniques,
& placement of monograms onto fabric. A small instruction booklet
including a full alphabet will be provided with all necessary materials
to accomplish the monogramming process.
Total Class
hours: 6 hours Class Materials: A sampler kit, a linen project with
instruction booklet on layout & designing your own monograms.
Prerequisite: Basic embroidery & White work embroidery skills
necessary. Fee: $175.00
Classes will be held on a first come first serve basis.
A
package price of $450.00 which includes all three classes can be
accomplished in 8 days. This can be tailored to the need of the
individual. Private individual instruction will be at the cost of
$25.00 per hour.
Workshops on the care of fine linen
are also available for individuals or groups. The workshop can be
tailored to suit the individual or group. We can create a how to care
for your fine linen as a lecture or “hands on” training session. Please

visitors to Williamsburg by offering discounted rates at local hotels
and restaurants. These classes would be perfect for a group of 2 to 6
people.
