Needlework Classes
Based upon our own European standards, we offer classes in fine
hand embroidery.
These are the same skill techniques we use to create our own hand embroidered linens. Our
knowledge in the techniques of embroidery are offered here in three
distinct classes. We provide the novice to the most experienced of
embroiderers, classic techniques to master and use to create your own heirloom linens.

Basic Embroidery - Two - 3 Hour Sessions
Day
1: This is an introduction class to the traditional techniques of embroidery.
Basic linen embroidery stitches will be taugh in these sessions. A sampler of stitches will be
provided which includes all materials necessary to accomplish the work.
Stitches and techniques will be taught & practiced during the class time and must then be practiced at
hotel & home to be effective.
Day 2: A sampling of basic stitches will be continued
with refining stitching techiques as taught. Stitches will be reviewed & refined during this
session. This will be a full session focusing on the learned techniques
and reviewing the progress that was made during Day 1 session. Techniques will be monitored during the session with basic embroidery sttiches implemented into a real linen project to be accomplished.
Total class hours: 6 hours with class materials provided.
Prerequisite: Beginners Welcome - Fee: $100.00.
Whitework Embroidery -Two – 3 Hour Sessions
Day
1: This class will cover basic whitework stitches and techniques used in creating
beautiful heirloom linens. The class will include preparation of fabric
for whitework and preliminary layout of a design using professional whitework embroidery techniques to obtain very fine results. A sampling of stitches will be taught and practiced during this session. The stitches must be practiced both in class, hotel, and home to be effective.
Day 2: This session will review what was
taught in the first session and will continue with monitoring and perfecting these
stitching techniques. A linen project will be provided to accomplish an
actual worked piece. Skill techniques will be reviewed and monitored for correctness and accuracy
Total Class Hours: 6 hours with class materials provided.
Prerequisite: Must have Basic Embroidery skills - Fee: $140.00
Elegant Monogramming - Two - 3 Hour Sessions
Day
1: This class offers the time-honored art of fine hand monogramming.
This type of needlework has been very popular since the 18th century.
Learn the techniques & skills of the Old World. A sampler of
stitches will be provided and taught to achieve the beautiful heirloom
look that is essential in fne heirloom linens. You will learn the same techniques used in our own embroidery studio and in our European workrooms. Stitches must be practiced both in class, hotel and home to be effective.
Day 2: This will be a
full session of focusing on the learned techniques with monitoring &
reviewing the progress made from Day 1.
After achieving your new skills, a linen project with a real monogram will be provided for you to work and you will learn basic transfer & layout techniques for creating your own monogrammed linens.
Total Class
hours: 6 hours with class materials provided.
Prerequisite: Basic embroidery & Whitework skills - Fee: $160.00

New Classes & Workshops starting 2010
New for 2010 is our workshop on How to Care for Fine Estate Linens. This is a one day workshop that includes the proper care, maintainence and storage of linens. There is an optional evening session for the Restoration and Repair of Antique & Estate Linens. Learn professional techniques used in our own workrooms.
In addition, we will be offering a Vocational Needlework Training program for those interested in setting up their own home based embroidery business. This program will also offer employment opportunities for those who successfully complete the courses.
We have excellent group rates with the Woodlands Hotel & Conference Center at Colonial Williamsburg. The Woodlands is a perfect setting for a Needlework & Linen retreat while enjoying all the benefits of a mini holiday at Colonial Williamsburg.
